Set in Denver City, 2064 AD,
Jucks is an experimental sci-fi silent film dissecting audience, evolution, and ecstasy. It follows a strange creature called Jules who enters a dystopian landscape lorded and shaped by a dark omniscient radio frequency, a land saturated with a hallucinogenic substance called Crude. Jules wants nothing to do with this world, and searches high and low for only one thing : Gold.
Jucks entered into pre-production in May of 2024 with a budget of $22,000. After raising close to $11,000 and casting the leading and supporting roles, shooting began in July and continued through September. A 14,000 sqft subterranean warehouse space was rented for two months to build sets and film a handful of key scenes.
After filming was wrapped, an immersive, experiential event was held in the warehouse, featuring projection art from film footage, performance character dances, and improvisational soundwall experimentation.
Performances from Rita DiSibio, Rachel Halmrast, and Adam Stielstra.
Each piece was performed in an installation format, cycling through several iterations throughout the night.
The event was in collaboration with Rainbow Dome, a local, queer-centric collective aiming to revamp the warehouse space into a community center, roller-rink, and event space.
The event raised another $1.5k to fuel the completion of the film.
